It is a tube preamp with solid state amp which has always been my favorite combination. I have had 2 McIntosh tube preamps with multiple McIntosh solid state amps. The last was C2600 preamp with M452.Location: Long Island. I have this amp, and I love it. I use it to drive my B&W N802s, which are thought to be very power hungry. The MC202 has more than enough power for them. It is (as everyone lese here has described) very tubelike, very warm (though detailed). I just think it is a very, very musical amp.
