It has happened 3 times since I have owned it. It only occurs if you have to drive it aggressively such as getting out into traffic and such. It has been fixed twice out warranty.

I have a 2001 TJ 4.0 and it is consistently throwing a P0305 (#5 piston misfire) code and any time the RPM reaches 2800, it cuts out and surges between 2600 and 2800 rpm (exactly like a Rev limiter, assume a limp mode).I want to reset the ecu, and here is how i did it, maybe its wrong. so please tell me what to do right. 1 - disconnect positive battery cable. 2 - disconnect negative batter cable. 3 - hold both cables together for 30 seconds. 4- connect positive back up. 5 - connect negative.I have a 2001 sport 4.0 5 speed and my jeep wont rev past 3000. A cam-crank relearn is a procedure performed which takes each phaser/actuator through their full range of travel and records their travel limits in the pcm so it can correlate them to the crank angle correctly. It should be performed any/every time work/replacement is done to a cam or crank sensor or phaser/actuator. Jscan can do it.

The first trip to the shop this time identified the wrong oil filter as the problem, mine did not have a check valve built in. The filter (and oil) was changed and the first climb up a highway grade, the code reset and the engine went into limp mode.
