I know this is the Model 60 forum but thought you may be able to give me some info on this rifle. Local pawn shop has a Marlin 989 M2 rifle. My very first .22 rifle bought in the early 70's was a 989M2. Very accurate and reliable. Mechanically identical to the Model 995 that replaced it. Great gun! The only thing that would make it better (being a Marlin purist) would be the addition of a "period" Marlin Scope. The Model 300 or 300A (fixed 4 x 20) or Model 500 or 500A (variable 3 to 7 x 20)were offered in 1969. These days, they are a bit hard to find, but would really add to the package!

Jake, i think the way Marlin works their dates of manufacture is; they take the 1st two numbers of the serial number and subtract them from 100. so 25 from 100 would put your gun at 1975. welcome to the forum. The rifle is clean and properly lubricated - and has always jammed like crazy. Feed it CCI Mini Mags, Federal, Winchester - you name it and it will jam about once out of every 20 rounds - sometimes once every 10 shots.

Which is the predeccessor of the Marlin Model 795, the difference between those is the LSHO (Last Shot Hold Open) feature & a bump in the magazine well that prevents Model 70 from being used. So whatcha wanna do is use a Model 989-M2 manual.
