What you want for hardcore is survivability even if that means not maxing your main stat at char creation and level ups. Similarly, when picking enhancements, look for stuff that provides HP, PRR, MRR, dodge, AR, saves etc over what you would normally pick. Even feats are nice such as toughness. Look for gear that provides the same.

That means that if you want to win more rxp points you will need to do a different quest or a different reaper difficulty. Example: quest A at reaper skull 1 quest A at reaper skull 2 etc.
