I don’t think it’s the power steering pump, but it’s a similar sound, coming from that general area, but turning the wheel doesn’t have an effect on the sound - only pushing on the gas pedal.Honda failed to tell you why they extended the warranty on the engine. The Mechanic showed me a Technical Service Bulletin regarding "whining" A/T for 03 Elements, 99 - 04 Odysseys, and 03-04 PILOTS. He said that it is a common problem and that the only way to "cure" the noise is by replacing the tranny.

You can definitely hear it when you are in park and give it some gas. It's not a high pitch squeal.....the sound reminds me of a gear driven motor but not as loud.

The pump will whine if low on fluid. If it is low top it off and find out where it is leaking.
