Personally, I'm a fan of the inletting black that Vol423 mentioned. It doesn't dry out. It easily blackens whatever it touches and it seems to last almost forever. As stated above, put a small amount of draft (or bevel) on the edges of the piece to be inlet. That will go a long way. And use way less inletting black.
