Hey everyone. I was considering playing a Horizon Walker Ranger for my next campaign as I love the concept of the subclass. I feel like, other than the amazing 11th level ability, the mechanics of the subclass don't really deliver the fantasy of a warrior manipulating the connection between planes to their benefit in a consistent way.

TWF would never really come up. Distant Strike requires hitting 3 different creatures to get its full effect, and it’s easier to do that with a large range instead of hoping they are clumped up. People also view distant strike as an offensive strike for Melee Rangers, but 10 feet TP isn’t that large of a distance.

Personally, I'd probably build a melee focused ranger. Dueling fighting style for damage, spells such as Zephyr Strike and Ensnaring Strike, and at level 4 get Elven Accuracy. With Zephyr and Ensnaring Strike you can easily proc Elven Accuracy so you can effectively crit fish.
