Low coolant level. If the coolant level in the coolant reservoir is low, it will cause your car to be hot. The absence of coolant in the reservoir of your vehicle will not make the system function properly, causing the engine’s temperature to rise. A low coolant level can eventually damage the whole cooling system of your vehicle.Technician: Mike Mcmillan. The only time we see an issue with a cracked head is with a major overheating problem. If it had an issue with liner protrusion it should be pressurized all the time. One other thing to check for the pressure being held overnight is to make sure the air compressor head is not causing this.

I have changed radiator and reservoir cap hoping this could solve the issue but dont. Then I filled coolant into the radiator to full. (the overflow is between min/max and the reservior is 3/4). Today morning I have opened the radiator (system was cold) and the coolant push out, yet the bubbling decreased a bit.Got a 16 plate 1.6 ASX when doing motorway speeds can loose a whole header tank after 60 miles, but lower speeds can vary amounts. No signs of leaks other than blowing coolant out overflow on header tank, changed header tank, changed thermostat, changed cam belt and water pump and done a test on head that was negative.154,995. james answered 2 years ago. To check for a blown head gasket you can get a cooling system pressure tester. With the engine cold pressurize the cooling system. Start the engine and look at the needle on the pressure tester gauge. If it bounces, the head gasket is blown. Hope that helps! Jim. Mark helpful.Technician: Mike Mcmillan. A coolant sample can be checked with a chemical CO2 detector. CO2 is a byproduct of combustion. If CO2 is found, it would likely be a head gasket combustion chamber-to-water jacket leak. If CO2 is not detected, it could be an air leak into the suction side of the water pump (lower radiator hose side).A few common causes exist for seeing bubbles or boiling your coolant reservoir, even when the car engine doesn’t overheat. Try leaving the cap to the overflow reservoir a little loose to see if that stops the overflowing, or test the coolant for exhaust (I think you can buy a test kit at an auto or truck parts store).

This car has been overheating, and bubbling out of reservoir. I changed the thermostat today and same problem remains. I also noted the fan will not run. Having hard time finding out why it won't run. To get back to bubbling overflow tank temp gauge will read normal and hot. Doesn't seem to matter what gauge says it still will do it.

Combustion in the cooling system ussually gets worse and pushes coolant out overflow while driving due to overpressure. Rapid temp fluctuation and fan cycling is another clue to air or compression in the cooling system. I would also be replaced the thermostat with new.
