I'd take down the rifle again, make sure it looks like everybody is in the right place, no obvious new scratching or dings. Sometimes I've had the firing pin try to hang up on the finger lever.

As I now own 2 pre 1974 Marlin 39A, I am looking to buy a firing pin or 2 to add to my spare parts bin. Brownells list a pin, but it says post 1974, and the photo shows a difference at the business end with the size of the cut-outs. Marlin Spares in the UK only show a post 1974 pin as well.
